The Cavel WL Series

the cavitiesWLThey are the low loss series of Italian conductors, coaxial cables with 50 ohm impedance, high performance, broadband (work up to 5.8 GHz), flexible and low attenuations.

They are also produced in Gropello Cairoli (PV), in our ISO certified plant, where we have been producing quality coaxial cables for 50 years.

WL Cable Range

A range is available fromWL195(conductor diameter 1 mm, external cable Ø 4.95 mm) ALWL500(internal conductor Ø 3.40, external cable Ø 12.7 mm).
As the WL cables are very flexible, it is possible to eliminate the jumpers in many installations / applications. This results in reduced costs and better reliability – or even allows for smaller cables to be used, despite having the same attenuations as a corrugated cable with a larger diameter, and therefore much lower than cables with solid dielectrics (RG / U, MIL).
WL cables have RF performance similar to traditional corrugated copper cables, but unlike the latter they are highly flexible, non-tickable, and offer unparalleled ease and speed of connector installation.
Compared to RG/U braided cables, WLs offer much lower leakage and better RF shielding.
These features make our WLs the best choice for any type of wireless application.

Construction technical features

Cavel’s WL Cable Series design features include:
1) Dielectric polyethylene foam

  • nitrogen injection, inert gas -> no moisture to degrade performance;
  • closed cell
  • high speed of propagation
  • Low losses, low attenuations

2) High performance flexible shielding system

  • Multi-laminar composite tape glued to the dielectric (in the WL300-400-500 models)

– Provides shielding attenuation > 90dB (180 dB cross talk))
– Double shielding and glued format ensure 100% effective shielding
– acts as a second barrier to humidity

  • The outer braid is in tinned copper:

– Provides a good means for grounding and attachment to the connector

3) External coating in polyethylene, PVC and LSZH

  • Resistant to UV rays and atmospheric agents, minimum life of 15 years.

Differences from RG/U and other braided cables

TheWLThey have less attenuation and better protection against the interfering external fields of the braided cables of equal size. This is thanks to the high quality polyethylene sheath, the gas expansion and the double shield, which contribute to the superior resistance to atmospheric agents of the WL cables compared to the RG, and also compared to the other braided cables comparable in size.

Different types of cables are available on request in this seriesWL, with different finishes and technical devices designed in order to have the suitable cable according to the particular needs of the single installation.

WL:The standard is an outer sheath in black polyethylene, very resistant to both UV rays and bad weather, and is suitable for operating temperatures from -40 ° to + 80 ° degrees, designed for an outdoor service of 20 years.

WL-N:theWL195NandWL240NThey have polyvinyl croruide (PVC) sheaths and are characterized by greater flexibility than polyethylene standards, and therefore to greater handling during installation (the older brothers of the family are also available on request with these characteristics and will also have the ending n, to indicate the black color of the sheath despite the material being PVC). PVC is a less expensive material than LSZH, however it emits toxic fumes (HCl) and a higher smoky density when burned.

For this reason in the range there are also iWL-ZHN, such cables have sheaths in LSZH, a polymeric compound that in the event of a fire delays the flame and does not emit black and toxic fumes. They are indicated in all applications where increased fire resistance and low fume emission are necessary.

On request, watertight cables will also be available, with polyethylene sheaths and an inert fluid compound in and above the shielding (the so-called Petrol Jelly), to completely eliminate the possibility of any water infiltration, ensuring a continuous and reliable service even if the sheath were inadvertently damaged during installation or later.

Connection

CAVEL WL have been designed to have the diameters of the conductors, dielectrics and cables as a whole, suitable for most standard 50 ohm connectors of N, BNC, TNC, SMA, UHF type and Weld that not.

Costs

In most cases, WL cables will save compared to the corrugated 50 ohm cable. This is because by combining the lower cost with ease and speed of installation, they make excellent savings. And they also offer significant performance advantages thanks to the scarce losses compared to RG / U, and at comparable prices.

WL

standard is a cable with sheath inpe(Polyethylene) UV durable, designed for a 20-year outdoor service. The bending and handling characteristics are significantly better than cables with air dielectric and rigid corrugated corrugations.

WL-N

characterized by sheath inPVC,Designed for general purpose low leakage applications, it is quite flexible compared to the standard polyethylene line. It is less expensive than LSZH, however it emits toxic fumes (HCl) and a higher density of smoke when burned

WL-ZH

They are halogen-free (non-toxic), low fume emissions, flame retardant, and non-corrosive cables. Designed for the installation of safety in the event of fire even indoors with high economic value equipment.

Ponds

Watertight cables are also available on request, which thanks to the addition of a gelatinous waterproofing agent between the screen and the sheath ensures a reliable continuous service even if the sheath were inadvertently damaged during installation or later.
